Mayco A. Santaella is Associate Professor at the Department of Film and Performing Arts at Sunway University, which he currenty heads.
The focus of Santaella’s studies is the gong-row tradition of Central and North Sulawesi as part of the gong culture of the extended Nusantara region. He conducted research for his doctoral studies in the region of Central Sulawesi as the recipient of a Fulbright research grant. He was formerly the Managing Editor of the MMJ Journal and Lecturer at Sultan Idris Education University.
He completed his PhD studies in Music (Ethnomusicology) at University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia (2016), MA in Ethnomusicology at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, USA (2010) and BA Music Major, Asian Studies Minor at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, USA (2007).
His previous academic positions were: Chair of the Music Program of Sunway University (2016-2019), CITI Program - Social & Behavioral Research Course (2017), Managing Editor MMJ Journal (2015-2016), Lecturer at Sultan Idris Education University (2014-2016), Fulbright Research Grant Recipient (2011-2012), East West Centre Fellow (2007-2009) and Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Hawaii 2009-2011.
