Malik Sharif supports the Director of the MMRC in the strategic development of the center and participates in the conceptual design, acquisition, and implementation of third-party funded projects.
Sharif studied musicology (BA 2009, MA 2011) and philosophy (Mag.phil. 2012) in Graz and Halle an der Saale and holds a PhD (2017) in ethnomusicology from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. His research has been awarded prizes by, among others, the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research, by the State of Styria, and the German Society for Popular Music Studies.
Before joining the MMRC, Sharif worked as a researcher and lecturer as well as a research manager and assistant to the Vice-rector of Research at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He has also been the managing director of a non-commercial community radio station and has played numerous concerts as a musician in various popular music groups.
